This was a relatively uneventful beach day on South Harris Beach. I was expecting more drift and erosion issues post-Bomb Cyclone. It was beautiful outside but the air was a little hazy with smoke from controlled burns in the area. Mellow December Thursday for sure. read more

A cool and cloudy morning at low tide along Mile 7 found only 7 people and no dogs. Seasonal beach erosion was noted at the southern end of the mile and very little debris was observed at the driftline.read more

  • Dead bird - unidentified
  • Mainly kelp and seagrass were found in the driftline and only in a few places. One tent was observed about mid-mile, and it appeared to have been there overnight.
  • Hard shell branching organisms about 1/4 to 1/2 inch in diameter and up to 8 inches in length.
  • Several individuals fishing from a very steep and dangerous slope on the south side of a rock at the northern end of Mile 7.
  • A fisherman "resting" on a rock while waiting for fish action.

Coastwatch Mile 7 beaches contained very little debris, a possible result of relatively calm seas during the recent King Tides. The driftline contained only organic material including what appeared to be mole crab molts. These were observed in the driftline from approximately Mile 7.0 to Mile 7.4.read more
