Very quiet morning on the beach with most people simply driving the beach. The clamming season is temporarily closed due to toxins which accounts for the low number of people for such a calm day.

Summary:
Normally we see far more people on the beach at this time but the clamming season is temporarily closed due to toxins. We picked up a lot of trash consisting mostly of plastic bottles.

Conducted a NOAA marine debris survey today with the CoastWatch coordinator and a group from the Northwest Youth Corps. Also picked up trash from outside of the survey area, along the mile.

Today was a publicized event for a beach cleanup, and we picked up 4 bags of trash and a tire along mile. Parking lot area and just beyond dunes from parking area were notated as having lots trash...

Picked up multiple bags of trash mostly stryofoam, some rope. Fires were out by end of survey. There was a driftwood shelter built into the dune - picture included.

I drove this mile in my vehicle while birdwatching. Notable dead animal sightings included a dead elk being scavenged by turkey vultures (see photos below), a dead harbor seal being eaten by turkey...

Nothing unusual these past months. Our area allows driving on the beach and we have many dog walkers. We have picked up a lot of trash in the last month of which most is plastic.
