The Citizens for a Better Lincoln County and 350 Oregon Central Coast are sponsoring an open community meeting dealing with our climate change challenges.  This meeting will begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 18,  at the South Beach Community Center (3024 S.E. Ferry Slip Rd. in the South Beach area of Newport), followed by a spirit-raising dance from 7 to 9 pm.  Music will be graciously provided by the Sons of the Beaches band.  Admission is free.  Light snacks and drinks will be provided. This is a family affair so no drugs or alcohol permitted.  Attendees must have proof of Covid vaccination and personal ID.

350 Oregon Central Coast and Citizens for a Better Lincoln County released a 70-page Lincoln County climate action plan in August, 2020 which seeks a goal for Lincoln County to become carbon neutral by 2035.   The carbon neutral goal would be attained through a transition from fossil fuel cars to electric cars and additional carbon sequestration efforts on forestlands.   Most recently, the two organizations have sent two separate letters to the Oregon Global Warming Commission and the Oregon Department of Forestry to ask that both agencies pursue more aggressive natural climate solutions to sequester an additional 9.5 million metric tons of CO2.
